Becoming parents is a life-changing experience, but it can also feel incredibly overwhelming. Especially when you’re raising children far from the environment you grew up in.
Our parenting journey began with two very different backgrounds. I grew up in the United States, while my husband was raised in a small village in India. Despite these differences, when we became parents we shared the same feeling: we had no idea what we were doing.
Like most new parents, we researched everything we could. We read articles, watched videos, and asked friends and family for advice. While we received guidance from those around us, we were still the ones handling the day-to-day realities of caring for a newborn, navigating sleepless nights, health concerns, milestones, and constant questions.
And no matter how much research we did, there were moments where we still felt unsure and inadequate.
The Missing “How” in Parenting Advice
One thing we noticed quickly was that a lot of parenting content explains why things happen. why babies cry, why sleep routines matter, or why certain developmental stages occur.
But there is often very little information about how to actually navigate those situations in real life, especially for families balancing multiple cultures.
Parenting as Desi Parents Abroad
For many Desi parents raising children outside of India, parenting comes with unique challenges. We are balancing traditions, cultural values, and modern lifestyles while also trying to build stable careers and homes for our families.
It can sometimes feel isolating.
Many immigrant parents are working hard, navigating competitive environments, and trying to raise their children well while staying connected to their roots. At the same time, there are so many questions that don’t always have clear answers.
Why We Created From Chai to Cheerios
That’s exactly why we started From Chai to Cheerios.
Our goal is to create a space where Desi parents raising kids abroad can share experiences, learn from each other, and talk honestly about the realities of parenting.
We don’t claim to have all the answers. In fact, we’re learning along the way just like many other parents.
Through this platform, we hope to:
Share real parenting experiences
Talk openly about challenges and lessons
Connect with Desi parents navigating similar journeys
Learn from others willing to share their stories
Because parenting is a lot easier when we realize we’re not alone.
Raising children across cultures can feel overwhelming, especially for Indian parents living abroad who are balancing traditions, modern expectations, and busy lives. Through From Chai to Cheerios, we hope to create a space where Desi parents raising kids abroad can connect, share experiences, and learn from each other. Parenting may not come with a manual, but community makes the journey easier.
From Chai to Cheerios is about building that community, one conversation at a time.
